Browne, Charles. The Gun Club Cook Book, or A Culinary Guide for the Appreciative Epicures. Revised Edition. 1931. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows minor edge tears and light fraying. Illustrations by Leonard Holton.
The author, Charles Browne, founded a group for shooting clay pigeons in Princeton, New Jersey. It was a great success, and he constructed a club with a restaurant for the enjoyment of the gun club’s members. It turned out that Browne was as fond of food as he was shooting, and the food served at his gun club reflected that. This, the resulting book, is a narrative about food, not a collection of recipes. It is an excellent survey of the wide range of meats, fish, and vegetables and the various ways in which they are best prepared.
