Parker, Dorothy. Sunset Gun. Second Edition. 1941. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in good condition—jacket shows repaired tears, fading to the spine, and minor fraying.
This is the Sun Dial Press edition of a collection of fifty-eight pieces of verse that were originally published in book form in 1928. It was Parker’s second volume of poetry to be published. It was originally to be called Songs for the Nearest Harmonica, but just before it went to press, she switched to the more ominous Sunset Gun, a reference to the canon shot fired at the end of the day when the flag is lowered. And, indeed, many of the poems are dark, but they mordantly delicious, guaranteed to deliver mirth.
